This book was originally published prior to 1923, and represents a reproduction of an important historical work, maintaining the same format as the original work. While some publishers have opted to apply OCR (optical character recognition) technology to the process, we believe this leads to sub-optimal results (frequent typographical errors, strange characters and confusing formatting) and does not adequately preserve the historical character of the original artifact. We believe this work is culturally important in its original archival form. While we strive to adequately clean and digitally enhance the original work, there are occasionally instances where imperfections such as blurred or missing pages, poor pictures or errant marks may have been introduced due to either the quality of the original work or the scanning process itself. Despite these occasional imperfections, we have brought it back into print as part of our ongoing global book preservation commitment, providing customers with access to the best possible historical reprints. We appreciate your understanding of these occasional imperfections, and sincerely hope you enjoy seeing the book in a format as close as possible to that intended by the original publisher.

Let 'er buck a story of the passing of the old West Charles Wellington Furlong Books

This book was written almost a century ago, and so provides an eye witness account of the birth of rodeo as we know it today. The author chronicles the metamorphosis from wild, "spur" of the moment events just getting the saddles on the horses in the cow camps to the first few years of the newly organized Pendleton Round Up.

The names of the cowboys and cowgirls who competed in the earliest Round Ups are a who's who list of the Early Royalty of the sport of Rodeo. The women of the early rodeos competed just as hard and in the same events as the men. Why in 1914, Bertha Blancett was only a few points away from winning the All-Around Championship and organizers decided it would be in the best interest of all to separate men's and women's events.

For a look into the West the way it was, from a first hand point of view, makes this book a great read for all interested in the history of the west and of rodeo.

Great book. I enjoyed the history of the rodeo in the Oregon. Mr. Furlong the author lived it and covered every part of the experience.
