When Lord Robert Markson, Viscount of Hampshire, is force to return to England to find out who murdered his father and older brother he’s in for a surprise.
It comes in the guise of Lady Kristina Rosewood, daughter to the Earl and Countess of Crossington. To many she’s quartz but to him a multifaceted diamond.
While recovering from an attempt on his life which thrust them closer together they work through emotions for each other while sorting through letters sent to his mother years ago. Slowly, they’re able to discover the one man who could have set the murders in motion. The only problem, he’s been dead for years so who could it be and more importantly why now.
Once all the evidence is compiled the answer is something neither could believe as the threat comes from within the late viscount’s house.

I'm not one to read Regency books. But, when I saw the cover art work and read the blurb for this book, I took a chance and bought it. I'm very pleased that I did. In my reviews, I don't like to repeat the blurb.
What I'd like to say is that this story wasn't a stuffy, formal read. It was a cozy mystery with attemped murder, 2 past murders, and a blooming love story all in one. I truly enjoyed the tenderness Robert showed to Kristina from the very start. Now that's how to court a lady while someone is trying to kill you. I'm so glad that I took a chance with this book. I will be reading the next one.

...of irritating, distracting grammatical errors, sparse character and spare plot development. In the blink of an eye our heroine evolves from a shy, plain girl with with a stammer to a lovely, intelligent & outspoken woman with not a trace of a stutter! It is never satisfactorily explained why she is treated badly and/ or shunned by her peers.

With a complete lack of evolution the main players become each other's "Raison d'etre". I was also stunned to find that the herion's hair, originally described as "brown", became 'blond' later in the narrative.

There is little plot and no mystery. The entire "mystery" is presented in a labored group dialogue. Not only is it convoluted, thus difficult to follow conceptually, it is made almost incomprehensible by a multitude of stranded prepositions and split infinitives.

I think the concept is derivative, but classic. With comprehensive editing and expanded character/ plot development it might have been a good read.
This has got to be the worst book I've ever bought. It is full of gross grammatical errors, historical mistakes and a ridiculously weak plot.
The story line was ok but the quality of the writing was not. This is the kind of book I should have really enjoyed but I did not. It was almost amateurish. Fortunately it was a quick read - on a road trip - so it was this or nothing. I can't remember what I paid for it, but I hope it was not much.
Great Book. Didn't won't to put the book down until I finished it. The ending left me with an intense need to get the next book. Thank you for for a great chance to escape through reading.
excellent
